
The British champion, a previous Prizefighter winner, had travelled 7,000 miles to take on Argentine Fernando David Saucedo for the vacant title in Buenos Aires.
But that fight, on the undercard of Sergio Martinez's win over Martin Murray, had to be called off after Martinez's fans stormed the ring and rendered it completely unfit for purpose.
Martinez is so popular in his homeland that he was voted as their No 1 sportsman ahead of footballers Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez.
A crowd of 45,000 packed into the Estadio Jose Amalfitani and cheered him to a points victory over the brave Briton, who knocked Martinez to the canvas in the eighth round and tested him to the limit.
But the decision being given to Martinez caused chaos in the arena and meant Buckland was forced to head back to his hotel without having had the chance to fight.
Buckland, who boasts a 27-2 record and stopped Steve Foster in his last fight in December, was hoping to beat Saucedo to close on a world title shot of his own.
